October: Self Empowerment
Hi !
Someone I know through my work/yoga circle recently started a blog she calls FFF, AKA Fat, Forty(ish) and Frustrated. Catherine, the author, explains in her first FFF blog post that none of her big ideas and life aspirations took off in the way she had imagined or intended. In addition, she is at her all time heaviest weight, turning forty, and unsure of her career path.

The FFF blog is not nearly as depressing as it sounds; it's actually humorous, lighthearted and refreshing because it's real. Catherine pokes fun at her self but she also understands that beneath the emotions and ego, none of this stuff defines her. That is not to say she does not plan to work on her weight situation or other things, but it's a recognition that she is still who she is (a good person) despite the current not-so-positive external circumstances. Catherine's blog is really about honest and raw self expression and self empowerment. There is power in authenticity, in not hiding your true feelings and self behind a mask. On Facebook, we post our best faces. What Catherine did takes courage. I wrote a blog post about this called Truth Day Tuesday, a day when, I propose, we can post what is really going on.

Today, I was listening on NPR to Jonathan Eig, the author of the new biography on Muhammad Ali, speak about Ali being one of most hated men in the world for a time due to his refusal to fight in the Vietnam war and evasion of the draft. Ali stood up for what he believed in and remained true to himself. Eig explains that this was simply unheard of at the time, especially for a black man; Ali's heavyweight title was taken from him and he was banned from the boxing world for over three years. He was also charged with Evasion but was not sentenced to any jail time. (Fresh Air, 2017)

The Full Moon in Aries is upon us: tomorrow, Wednesday October 5th at 2:40 PM EST. This is a fiery moon and Muhammad Ali is a perfect example of the the Aries archetype. Boxing is an Aries sport and standing up for what you believe in is one of the most defining Aries traits. Aries is the fighting sign, the sign of survival. It's also the sign of the Self. When the Moon is full in Aries, there is an inner pull toward the self and honoring your needs. The Sun is, at the same time, lighting up the sign of Libra, letting us know that there is a balance to be struck between self and other, between our own needs and those of our partners or friends. With the Sun, Mercury, and Vesta all in Libra opposite the Full Moon, there may be a drive to express yourself truthfully even if others don't like what you are saying; and with Aries involved this can come out in an angry, fiery way.

This Full Moon is about facing and feeling anger and finding out what is at its core. Listen inside and see if changes are needed. This Moon is about expressing yourself unapologetically and staying aligned with your truth and needs, while also honoring the relationships that are meaningful to you and seeing how you can better balance self versus other. Don't give up. Neptune, God of dreams, is making a connection to the full moon and can create a feeling of wanting to escape to greener pastures.
In other Astrological News, there is a planetary shift into magnetic Scorpio soon ... first, Jupiter changes modes from lighthearted Libra into the deep waters of Scorpio on October 10th, with Mercury close behind on October 17th and finally the Sun moving into Scorpio on the 23rd. Scorpio is about personal power. If you are a Scorpio or have this placement prominent in your Natal Chart, part of your life mission is to empower yourself and others: the dark places you have been become your strength and what you have to share and offer. The sign of Scorpio is connected to trauma and healing, transformation and empowerment. Those of us with Scorpio in our natal charts can truly empathize with others' struggles because we have been there too, and this is what makes Scorpio a healer and teacher.

This can be an intense month with so much Scorpio energy and, of course, depends on what you are currently experiencing in your life. Are there relationship issues that need to be cleared out? Is it time to dig deeper in order to excavate the past? What in your life needs healing? It's a perfect time to learn about the deeper working of things and, also, to get quiet and listen: to meditate and be with yourself. You may find yourself, this month, naturally purging items you feel you no longer need, stuff that is taking up precious space.
The New Moon is in Libra on October 19th at 3:12 pm (EST). After turning our attention to the self during the Full Moon and, perhaps, clearing out anger or clutter we may be able to connect with others in a deeper way. I will also say that Uranus, the rebel, is playing a big part in this New Moon picture and so he adds a layer of unpredictability and/or excitement to any new relationships or endeavors that you begin now. There is the potential for a surprise/something unexpected and/or disruption and this may pertain to the self-versus-other arena, which was triggered during the Full Moon. Remember, also, that the placement of the planets in your own Natal Chart gives more information as to what areas of life may be lighting up for you. Considering the fiery realms of Aries and the intensive and potentially transformative energy of Scorpio, this could be an emotionally rich or intense month with potential for healing and transformation.
