NEW MOON in VIRGO
Question: Would
you like to learn more about your Natal Chart/how to read it? I am planning on running an online 4-6 week Astrology 101 Course. You will learn the nuts and bolts of the Natal Chart, which includes a lot about one's personality, life path, etc. Please EMAIL me if you are interested (gauging interest at this point).
The New Moon in Virgo encourages organization, getting back into a routine, healthy
living/taking care of your body, duties and responsibilities, and what you can offer others in terms of service and healing. We are here on this planet for a relatively short time and we are meant to be of service in one form or another. What is your mission in this lifetime?
A few days ago, my mission took the form of a kitten rescue operation. Four precious kittens were living under a shed in my friend's backyard and roaming around behind her house, meowing, seemingly looking for food. Do we rescue them? Do they need rescuing? Is the kitty mama around, in which case, we would essentially be stealing her babies? We ultimately made the decision to rescue the kittens from the perils of
outdoor living, scooping them up one by one and placing them inside a large box lined with towels. They meowed and sounded like they were in distress, and it broke my heart. I was also worried about the mother. I felt unsure about the decision we'd made.
The kittens
are now living it up in Greenwich, CT (from rags to riches, as my friend joked), and they are very loved in their new foster home, a family of animal lovers, and this makes me so happy. I am still torn, though, about the kitty mom losing her babies (if she in fact was still around) and the idea of messing with nature. I also believe that we likely saved the kitties' lives. There is a balance to be struck always between
practical/realistic matters and bigger picture themes, and it is never perfect.
Hanging out on the opposite end of the sky from this Virgo New Moon is ephemeral Neptune in Pisces. Virgo and Pisces could not be more different (on the surface),
yet opposites are a part of a larger whole that are always seeking to integrate. Neptune in Pisces can show up in your life as kittens, i.e., innocence/beings in their purest forms that may or may not need rescuing. Pisces is raw and pure creativity (i.e., not ego based), vivid imagination, beauty that leaves you speechless, fairy-tale like scenarios and, on the less evolved end, it shows up as addiction, escapism, and the desire to avoid and hide
from pain or anything that we are scared of facing. These two forces need to be integrated, and this is what this New Moon in Virgo is all about.
Do you lean more heavily toward one side of the equation? Or do you go to one extreme and then the other, and have trouble finding the middle ground? How can you cultivate more balance in your
life? The answer lies in this Virgo/Pisces conundrum.
People who are "Virgo heavy" have a Pisces shadow and vice versa. Someone who presents with Virgo traits, for example, may be drawn to Pisces types, and they may also project onto these people (e.g., believe they are
irresponsible, absent-minded, lost in dream land, addictions, etc.). Because the Virgo arch-type has a Pisces underbelly, he or she may be scared of unleashing his/her Pisces side. The key for our Virgo example is to "let go" in healthy ways. This is the underlying theme of this New Moon: surrendering control, or the idea of control. Virgo can be so tightly wound and create too many limitations and restrictions for themselves, and
therefore become self-imprisoned; in order to come into balance he or she needs to simply "be," to do something that makes the heart sing (reflected by Taurus in Uranus), something that does not have a utilitarian purpose. For example, before teaching my evening yoga class a few nights ago, I was invited to hang out at my friend's boat club (right near the studio); my 6th house moon (6th house is Virgo's house, by the way) may have said, it's not a good idea, you have an
errand to run still and a little more class prep to do, and what if your feet get sandy, etc. etc. (Yes, Virgo worries about sandy feet). Luckily, though, my Uranus ascendent (and transiting 9th house planets) said GO! We went for a sunset Kayak ride and it was exhilarating and heart expanding: the phrase "it makes my heart sing" came to mind when I was in the kayak, surrounded by water and the colors of the descending sun. If you lean on the Virgo side of the
spectrum, I encourage you do things that make your heart sing. Let go of some of the restrictions and concerns.
On the other hand, if you are full of Pisces stardust, people may say your head is in the clouds; you are a dreamer (some say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one), a wandered, and can't be bothered by the mundane details of life;
this is, however, a way to avoid doing the work you need to do or the issues you need to face. If this is you, your mission now is to put your nose to the grindstone and break down your bigger goals into small, manageable steps so that you can face reality and reach your goals, rather than dreaming your life away and then having regrets later on.
Virgo and Pisces can work beautifully together when in balance.
This New Moon may bring intensity and, potentially, healing and transformation connected to your daily work and life duties, career
path and/or the role(s) you play in the world, and father/authority figures (your inner ones or actual). As always with Pluto transits, they can be challenging (issues of power, manipulation, and fear can arise) or they can be healing and bring forth lasting and needed change. If you have done the work, there may be some new and profound/beautiful beginnings emerging for you.
I had fun on the flying trapeze today (something I've tried in the past and had been wanting to do again, and today I had that opportunity). The flying trapeze is a balancing act of detail/focus and letting go/surrendering. I was
reminded today that each tiny thing we do reflects the way we do everything, and these details add up to the bigger picture of our reality. I was learning how to do a "trick" and the last part involved releasing your grip with gusto - really going for it - and then gazing up as you reach your arms skyward and out to the instructor who is waiting to catch you. I had some trouble with this move: I was delayed, and didn't make the catch the first
time because I had hesitated. The instructor had me practice on the ground, reaching up with conviction and confidence. When I was standing on the platform the second time, ready to jump, I heard the instructor say: "You can do this, Nicole: I believe in you," and I felt myself moving through the sky with purpose, not hesitating for a second. I looked up at the sky and reached my arms out strongly, and in a flash my hands had connected with
the instructor's hands. I swung through the air with ease and then soared upward for a moment, light as a feather, before floating gracefully back down to the net as he released my hands. It occurs to me that reaching out one's arms is an expression of the heart. It does not come naturally for me to reach in this way because I don't expect to be met. Today I was met.
Blocks from the past may need to be cleared so that you can meet your highest potential and use your energy in the way you are meant to, in a way that enables you to feel a sense of growth (as opposed to stagnation) and strength/empowerment. Allow the issues from the past to be lessons and an avenue to healing. Your
hang-ups will show up in the details, in each small thing you do, and your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to shift that tendency so that you can make the catch and feel that sense of freedom that has come from your hard work. You can do it: I believe in you!
