The Full Moon is in the sign of Taurus today, Tuesday, November 12th.
In Diane Rizzettos book, Waking Up to What You Do, she writes: "There is a metaphor from the ancient Buddhist Avatam-saka Sutra that conceives the universe as an enormous net extending infinitely in all directions, protecting and nurturing all of life, nothing excluded. At the juncture of each knot of the net, there is a shiny multifaceted reflective jewel. Because of its many sides, each jewel reflects every other jewel in the net in the
vast network of mutual support of each other's existence" (26).
In my yoga classes, I often talk about aligning the physical body so that we can align the inner body - when we re-connect to the essence of who we are, we step into the bigger picture of life, the vast and alive universe all around us. Each inhale, the action of filling up the lungs, and each exhale, the process of letting go what is not needed, are akin to the full and new moon cycles and, of course, the cycles of life: birth, death, rebirth. To put it
lightly. ;)
We are not separate from other beings nor the environment, although the ego tells us we are ... and that is a lonely place to live in. We are all, surely, unique in many ways, but we are not separate - we are, as stated above, part of a vast network of life. The feeling of connection, genuine connection, is healing because, well, it is a basic human need and also because it aligns us with what really matters: we could
call that the heart center. Yoga aims to bring together the mind and the heart energies - to quiet the busy mind so we can listen more closely to the heart, or the truth.
The Taurus Full Moon brings us back home. It is a symbol for mother earth and the five senses we use to navigate the earth. Each sign rules a body part, and Taurus rules the throat and voice. If your throat is sore or you have neck pain it may be an indication that there is something you are ready to let go of, to free yourself from. With the Sun in Scorpio attachments are deep and strong and, sometimes, they are not in our best interest,
i.e., they keep us stuck. Use these next two weeks to release or wind down something - it may be a project or a class that has come to a natural conclusion, or it could be something more significant like a relationship, or emotions that keep you stuck in unfulfilling relationships or situations - whatever it is, let it go with grace ... how the heck do we do that? In my mind, grace is allowing yourself to feel what you are feeling by,
for example, breathing into it (practice your ujjayi breath off the mat), rather than analyzing and dwelling on it, which creates more resistance to letting go.
