Full Moon Blue Moon in Libra 7:12 am EST
I was driving home from NYC on Tuesday, and I knew I was going to throw up; that or pass out. As I merged onto the FDR Drive, I grabbed a plastic bag that was on my passenger's seat and looked, frantically, for a place to pull over, knowing fully well
there is nowhere to pull over on the FDR. My body was shaking, I felt dizzy, and my hands had gone numb.
A few minutes before, I had said a prayer to my dad, who is on the other side. Dad, I need your help getting home.
Then I noticed an ambulance ahead of me. I paused with my hand above the horn, afraid to make a move. A wave of nausea hit, and I turned on my 'hazards' and started beeping. They got the hint, and as I stopped my car on the highway the ambulance pulled up next to me. I was on my hands and knees, throwing up on the highway, and I was more than
a little relieved. The ambulance drivers stood above me devising a plan to drop off my car at the next exit.
The Full Moon in Libra is at 29 degrees, meaning that we are at a point of transition; 29 degrees is the last degree before the next sign begins (each sign is 30 degrees), and signifies the completion of something, in order to move to the next phase. The Libra moon brings focus to our relationships. Connection with others (Libra) and the support of family and/or close friends (North Node in Cancer) are important now. The universe is calling us to let go of old patterns and structures that hinder growth and, especially, to release the idea that we can control everything in life. We are being pushed to connect to our intuition, emotions, the collective energy, and our roots.
In that moment in my car, I felt helpless. I had no choice but to trust that help would come, and it did. Letting go and trusting is not easy for me; my 'go to' neuronal pathway is: panic and expect the worse. Yet every time I am forced to let go, so to speak, and put my trust in a 'higher power,' I have been taken care of.
Jupiter is retrograde now and for the next four months, reminding us of the power in trust, prayer, and the intelligence of the universe.
Tuesday, the day of throwing up on the highway, was an emotionally charged day because my mother was having a big surgery. I had driven her to the hospital in the wee hours of the morning, and as the day progressed I felt increasingly ill. By the time I saw her in the recovery room, I felt so nauseous that I was unable to stand up straight. She, on the other
hand, was feeling pretty good at that point due to "the nice stuff" the nurses had given her. As the nice feeling wore off, she would become severely nauseous, too. I wondered afterward if I was "feeling her pain." The good news is she is no longer nauseous and although the healing process is slow, it has begun.
Health issues may be on your mind now or something you are contending with. Hygeia, the asteroid that symbolizes one's attitude toward health and wellness, is opposing this Libra full moon. The truth is that we can eat well, exercise, take supplements, and do all the "right" things for the physical body and still be unhealthy if we are not tending to our roots,
and to the root cause of health issues.
According to the ancient study of Ayurveda, all dis-ease begins with toxins in the body, called Alma, that hinder our digestive "fires." These toxins are not just tangible, like alcohol and junk food; they include negative thought patterns and emotions. The practice of yoga, if done with healing intention and purpose, helps us to first
identify and then connect with emotions in order to move them through the body and release them. As we breathe and move we are becoming more present and "alive", and as we become present we become more aware of what is going on 'under the surface.'
Our thought patterns and beliefs are so ingrained that it takes presence and work to become aware of what we are feeding ourselves energetically. The author Caroline Myss explains, in Anatomy of the Spirit, "Healing ... is an active
and internal process that includes investigating one's attitudes, memories, and beliefs with the desire to release all negative patterns that prevent one's full emotional and spiritual recovery. This internal review inevitably leads one to review one's external circumstances in an effort to recreate one's life in a way that serves activation of will-- the will to see and accept truths about one's life and how one has used one's energies; and the will to begin to use energy for
the creation of love, self-esteem, and health."
A full moon yoga practice may be just what the doctor ordered tonight or tomorrow. For me, a full moon practice is breath-centered, and includes creative and "flowy" movements and is usually more gentle (depending on how I'm feeling). The point is to release pent up emotions and to bring body/mind into balance.
