They say all good things must come to an end. Many of you have heard that Yogaworks (the yoga studio I have taught at for the past several years) is shutting its doors in New York, and if you have not I am so sorry to be the bearer of this news.
Crisis is, they say, the peak moment of change. Many of us feel lost or uncertain now - what is the next step? I keep asking myself that. The Greek word for the right moment to do something is Kairos - it means time, but not in the chronological sense; Kairos refers to a particular moment in time: a moment of change or transformation. Kairos
was the youngest child of Zeus and the god of opportunity.
The experience of loss brings us back to the present moment because we are forced to remember what is important. I usually need to write out my thoughts in order to feel, and when I began writing today about the closure of Yogaworks I felt the loss in my body - prior to this, I had blocked it out and felt little. Feeling is, well, important - it's what allows us to process and integrate experiences
and emotions ... otherwise they get stuck, so to speak, in the body. The practice of yoga or any kind of meditative exercise or movement (as well as writing or journaling) are tools for connecting to emotions.
I took a breather from teaching over the past two weeks because, as many of you know, I wasn't feeling well - thank you for your caring emails. I am regaining my energy and ready to teach my livestream classes again.
I will be teaching my weekly Vinyasa class on Sunday at 9:15 AND I will be teaching, I learned today, my very last Yogaworks class on Sunday at 10:45 am, which is, of course, bitter sweet. I
am glad to have the opportunity for closure since this ending is so abrupt, and if you are able to join me I would love that. You can learn more about registering for the Yogaworks Live Classes HERE.
I am posting my weekly livestream class schedule below, which includes a kids yoga class (note: I can choose a different day or time - if you would like your child to participate but can't make that day/time, Kids Yoga Class).
I bought the orchid in the photo today - it made me feel happy and reminded me of new beginnings. We can always begin again. Here's to new beginnings.
